Why I Started Æthel Candle Co.

Starting Æthel Candle Co. wasn’t just about creating candles—it was about creating a feeling. A space. A breath. It began with a need for calm, a love for intentional living, and a desire to craft something meaningful by hand.

Finding Stillness in the Chaos

Life moves fast. Too fast. Between work, responsibilities, and the constant noise of the world, I found myself craving stillness. I began lighting candles not just for their scent, but for the sense of peace they brought to my space. That small ritual—striking a match, watching the flame catch—became a grounding moment in my day.

But the more I explored the world of candles, the more I noticed how many were made with synthetic ingredients, paraffin wax, or overpowering fragrances that didn’t feel good to breathe in. I wanted something better. Something cleaner. Something honest.

Creating What I Couldn't Find

Æthel Candle Co. was born from the belief that we deserve products that are beautiful, safe, and made with care. I began experimenting with coconut soy wax, natural fragrances, and vegan, cruelty-free ingredients in my kitchen. What started as a personal project quickly turned into a passion.

Each candle I made felt like a small act of intention—a way to slow down and connect with myself and others. I shared them with friends, who lit them during their own moments of pause, reflection, or celebration. And they asked for more.

Æthel Means Noble

The name Æthel comes from Old English, meaning noble. To me, it reflects the values I pour into every candle: honesty, purity, quality, and a deep respect for the spaces we create for ourselves and others. I wanted a brand that honored that—something quiet, thoughtful, and rooted in care.

More Than a Candle

Æthel is more than wax and wick. It’s about mindfulness. It’s about ritual. It’s about choosing things that feel good, inside and out. Whether you’re lighting a candle to start your day, end your evening, or simply breathe through a moment—you’re creating something sacred.

That’s what Æthel is here for.
